My first journey started in Austin, TX in May of 1995. I had just purchased a 1972 BMW R65, which I dubbed 'Buzz', from a friend of mine and was eager to set out for California for the summer. My trip was planned with my California house mate Dave Evans who met me in Phoenix, AZ.

Rus on Buzz

Dave on Bad Boy

Just starting out together we only got about 60 miles before havoc broke loose in the drive train of Buzz. With my BMW Owners Anonymous Book in hand I got in contact with the president of the Northern Arizona BMW Rider's Association. Randy Marlatt was gracious enough to rent a trailer, drive 40 miles south out of Flagstaff, pick me and Buzz up, and take us back to his house in Flagstaff. I honestly cannot thank Randy enough for his and his family's and his neighbor's hospitality and assistance in repairing Buzz. The very next day Dave and I were back on the road.

Together we rode out to the Hoover Dam, up through Las Vegas, across the Mojave Desert, up to Yosemite National Park, and then eventually back to the Bay Area. We did take pictures of that trip, but the camera was stolen with my leather jacket that it was sitting in. *sigh*
